Men's Fashion Week low on glamour

September 2, 2010 |16:12 | For Men  By : Team X

Men's Fashion Week low on glamourIt was more work and less play at the second edition of the Van Heusen India Men's Week that showcased a concentrated umbrella of pret lines under as many as 16 labels and, barring some exceptions, kept the usual Bollywood octane off the premises and the ramp. While some missed the film fraternity's extended presence, the organisers and exhibitors had their chins up for the peg on the work than the glitz - which saw only a handful of the B-Town overdose. “The main focus this time was more on the designer's creations than anything else," Sunil Sethi, president of event organiser Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), told IANS.Where day one kicked off with a technical snag that delayed Narendra 'Nari' Kumar Ahmed's Samurai inspired collection waiting backstage for one-and-half hours, the event picked up momentum over the weekend until Rohit 'Gudda' Bal closed the week in grandeur with his “Sharaarat” line.

“It is time to change direction and propose a new kind of style for the Indian male,” said Nari.

The high points of the men's week included designer brothers Shantanu and Nikhil's deforestation-inspired collection - experimental enough to bring the Indian male in an exaggeration of a floral drape sherwanis and skirts. Then, there were low crotch hot pants by Vijay Arora, the Robert Vadra inspired 1970s English line by Ashish N. Soni, cargo jodhpurs by Rajesh Pratap Singh - and not to forget Anarkalis for men by Gudda.

Guy Heels: Mirror man tries out the latest man fashion.. killer stilettos

May 27, 2010 |17:23 | For Men  By : Team X

Guy Heels: Mirror man tries out the latest man fashion.. killer stilettosFellas, if you think I look like a right cissy in my stilettos don't be too quick to scoff... Man heels - or meels - are about to storm the high street. Soon we'll all be wearing them - apparently.

Catwalk shows by Gareth Pugh in Paris, Rodarte in New York and Pam Hogg in London were awash with blokes in skyscraper shoes. And now Topman is increasing its stock of Cuban heels.

So, in the name of research, I slipped into a pair of five-inch size nine stilettos and tried to walk tall for a day. Here's how I got on...If I'm going to follow fashion I figure I should get a trendy hair cut, too. But when I pop in for a trim from hairdresser Zoe Russell, her comments on my shoes are as sharp as her scissors.

Cozy Styles Warm up Winter Fashion

January 20, 2010 |11:53 | For Men  By : Team X

Cozy Styles Warm up Winter FashionThere was a chill in the air both on and off the runway during the four days of Italian menswear for the fall/winter 2010-2011 which ended here Tuesday.

Much of the clothing was dedicated to the outdoors, from the bulky knits to heavy duty footwear, culminating in the D&G show dedicated to "life on the slopes," which wrapped up the short fashion week.

But if the styles jibed well with the damp fog that enveloped the city during fashion week, above all designers hoped the easily wearable outfits would help defrost the economic freeze which has hit the menswear industry. Sales were down 10 percent in 2009 over the previous year, the greatest loss yet for the male 'Made in Italy' label.

The future of men's fashion

January 6, 2010 |13:16 | For Men  By : Team X

The future of mens fashionWant to know the definition of a fashion victim? It’s someone who, when he is eased into the glowing.

white interior of a hospital MRI scanner and hears the beast hum into life, thinks about what his legs and feet must look like sticking out of the end, and chides himself that he could have chosen his outfit better.

A psychologist might argue that this was a classic example of displacement, worrying about your clothes instead of your health, but I disagree. You see, the man in the scanner was me  I was a bit poorly before Christmas  and I can tell you, having to spend almost half an hour in a piece of kit straight out of Stanley Kubrick does weird things to you. You can’t move and there’s nowhere to look apart from straight up, so it’s little wonder that your mind goes a-wandering  and mine ended up contemplating this conundrum:

Mens Fashion Week Is Almost Here!

December 9, 2009 |13:27 | Fashion Shows | For Men  By : Team X

Mens Fashion Week Is Almost Here!.Some say the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. We, however, think Men's Fashion Week is the most wonderful time of the year.

Those glorious few days when the world's best male models get on their best leather overalls and their best man skirts and man heels and their best meggings, brandishing their heavage with.

A new croc man clutch tucked under their fatless biceps. Yes, it all begins anew when Milan Men's Fashion Week kicks off next month.

Though Missoni and Moschino aren't doing men's shows this season, the schedule reveals Pringle, which hasn't done a show in a few years, will return to the runway.

Meanwhile, John Galliano's diffusion line, Galliano, is holding a presentation, which leaves WWD to suspect he is launching menswear under the label.

Fresh Gears new fashion line dares teens to go wild

December 4, 2009 |12:45 | For Men | For Women | Season  By : Team X

Fresh Gears new fashion line dares teens to go wildBringing out the wild side of teenagers may be a dangerous thing, but local apparel brand Fresh Gear (dubbed “F’g") is using it as inspiration for its latest line, Wild Stories.

Rebel wear

A few decades ago, it would have been unthinkable for anyone to claim that they were designing a fashion line consisting of cargos, skirts, shirts, shorts, and T-shirts to bring out the “rebellious streak" of 13-to-18-year-olds. But that seems to be F’g’s selling point.

“F’g’s vision is to be a trendsetter in teen's wear by providing popular, innovative, edgy and modern pieces that effectively help the youth find their unique voice," says Fresh Gear brand Manager Jo Anne Jamela.

Fluid art

“Through F’g, we want the youth to be fearless with their fashion choices instead of merely conforming to what is currently selling in the market That’s why we’re veering away from the standard ‘sweet girl’ or ‘boy-next-door’ look and into something more dynamic and expressive," she adds.
Pop culture nature

As such, Wild Stories takes its cue from a concept that is currently taking the international fashion world by storm: nature.  Divided into four main categories, F’g’s collection pays homage to.

The wide spectrum of nature’s colors as well as geometric and abstract designs. Colors of Nature pays homage to the wide spectrum of colors that nature possesses, such as the deep blue of the oceans.

Fashion yourself a Harvard Man

August 12, 2009 |12:30 | Fashion Events | For Men  By : Team X

The institution has just lent its name to a line of preppy men's clothing that only at any Ivy League school might be standard issue for a football game. Think "short-sleeve plaid shirts, Liberty print wovens, seersucker shorts, regimental stripes, sporty knits, patterned jackets and fancy pants -- all in a contemporary, tapered fit," according to the fashion trade publication Women's Wear Daily.

Fashion yourself a Harvard Man

The school has signed a 10-year licensing deal with tailored-clothing manufacturer Wearwolf Group for the line, named, and inspired by, Harvard Yard. The brand's creative director, John Fowler, told Women's Wear that the design team referenced photos of students lounging on the school's so-named lawn in the 1960s for the collection.

Berlin Fashion Week Shows a Raw Energy

July 7, 2009 |15:39 | Celebrities Fashion | For Men | General  By : Team X

Berlin Fashion Week Shows a Raw EnergyScattered slabs of concrete, still daubed with their original graffiti, are pertinent reminders that 2009 marks 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. But the cultural revolution that came with the fusion of the city’s East and West is even more visible as arty photographs in smart spaces, music pulsating from abandoned government buildings and fashion that reflects this hot, hip and happening city.

From the discomforting sight of homeless people from public shelters as models at Patrick Mohr’s show, to the gritty glamour of the Boss Orange line strutted through a former electricity plant on the city’s outer fringes, Berlin Fashion Week, which closed last weekend, had a distinctive raw energy. As Mayor Klaus Wowereit has famously defined his territory: “Berlin ist arm, aber sexy” — “poor, but sexy.”

Or, as he modified that statement in an interview last week: “We are trying to become richer, but to stay sexy — and it is a great challenge!”

The mayor emphasized that fashion is an integral part of the wider culture of modern Berlin, with creative institutions, including media, currently employing 160,000 people.

“The creative scene has various aspects: music, theater, architecture and fashion,” said Mr. Wowereit. “Berlin embraces creativity. All of the sectors creatively influence each other. And design has become such a part of our day-to-day life. It is so important.”
